Czech Republic - Beautiful Bohemia

Day 1:

Arrival at Prague Airport. Transfer by minibus, taxi or train to our base hotel in Třeboň.

Day 2:

Třeboň. After breakfast we personally equip you with your bicycle ensuring a perfect fit for everyone. The day is then yours to explore Třeboň and the surrounding countryside. The carp ponds to the north of Třeboň make a good introductory ride.

Day 3:

Třeboň to Hluboká nad Vltavou. This is the ideal way to start our journey – ambling down quiet country lanes, through a rolling landscape of sleepy villages, pretty lakes, babbling brooks, shady forests, and grassy meadows speckled with grazing cattle. The scenery here is exquisite. 22 miles (35km).

Day 4:

Hluboká nad Vltavou. A favourite with Bohemian royalty through the centuries, the atmospheric small town of Hluboká nad Vltavou is famous for its Windsor-style Neo-Gothic chateau -  in fact, a royal castle has existed on this site since the 13th Century. Open to the public, there’s also an excellent gallery well worth visiting. Also, a gentle ride into the beautiful Vltava Valley is highly recommended.

Day 5:

Hluboká nad Vltavou to Český Krumlov. We continue our tour through the region’s most scenic rural pastures, riding past golden cornfields and untouched woodland, and through the centre of Ceské Budéjovice, one of Europe’s largest town squares. The forested hills then become more dramatic as we begin to approach Český Krumlov and the fringes of Sumava National Park. 24 miles (38km).

Day 6:

Český Krumlov. You can’t help but be seduced by Český Krumlov, one of Bohemia’s most beautiful cities. Dwarfed by the imposing fortress which growls down from high above the Vltava, there’s the opportunity to explore its many intriguing buildings - including an extraordinary Rococo ballroom and Baroque theatre. Elsewhere, it’s a real pleasure exploring the narrow streets of this UNESCO World Heritage Site with its picture-postcard architecture. The town is also surrounded by recommended cycle routes, so this is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the unrivalled scenery of the northern edges of Sumava National Park.

Day 7:

Český Krumlov to Frymburk. Leaving behind the charm of Český Krumlov, we ride through some of the Czech Republic's most picturesque countryside within the Sumava National Park, where otters, peregrine falcons and red deer are among the wildlife. This low mountain range contains an array of stunning landscapes – from vast natural lakes formed by Ice Age glaciers to deep ancient forests and hay meadows rich in wild flowers. 22 miles (35km).

Day 8:

Frymburk. Dating back from 1277, Frymburk is mainly a resort town frequented by scores of like-minded tourists each year -  you’ll join anglers, hikers and fellow cyclists here, all enjoying a well-earned pivo (beer) or two in the local bars. Can’t resist one last ride? Then why not meander along the excellent cycle paths alongside Lake Lipno in the heart of Sumava National Park -  and board a ferry across this magnificent stretch of water.

Day 9:

Departure. Today we say "Dotací". We will transfer you direct from Frymburk to Prague Airport by train or minibus and, look forward to welcoming you back again next year.
